On Wednesday, a person fired a weapon at a hot air balloon over the Trakai district in Lithuania. The fourteen people travelling aboard the balloon were unharmed.
"They [descended] lower to see what the wind was. A man on the ground started swearing and shooting at them, and they flew away,” Vytautas Sviderskis, president of the Lithuanian Airmen's Federation, told BNS.
“They didn't speak to him much. You don't feel like talking when you are being shot at," he added.
One round hit the basket and another pierced the canopy, according to Sviderskis. The incident took place when the balloon was at an altitude of around 60 to 70 metres.
“The pilot radioed to his colleagues that he was being fired at, and they did not believe him at first,” Sviderskis said.
The police are now conducting a pre-trial investigation. During the search of the 41-year-old suspect’s house, officers seized two air guns.
